Bookshare.org part de l'idée que, à l’heure du numérique, il est beaucoup plus rapide et économique de scanner les livres récents plutôt que de les enregistrer sur cassettes (version audio) ou de les transcrire en braille embossé (version imprimée). Le temps nécessaire se compte en heures ou en jours, et non plus en semaines ou en mois. [...] Les fichiers numériques peuvent ensuite être convertis au format BRF pour lecture sur plage braille ou impression sur imprimante braille, et au format DAISY pour écoute sur synthèse vocale.
